Manual Techniques

This task to export Gmail Emails to Exchange Server is accomplished with two steps.

Step 1: To export the Gmail emails to PST format

  1. Here, first, you need to sync the Gmail account with MS Outlook.
  2. When you configure the Gmail account in Microsoft Outlook, a PST file is automatically created in one of the following paths:
  • Drive:\Users\\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook
  • Drive:\Users\\Roaming\Local\Microsoft\Outlook
  • Drive:\Users\\MyDocuments\OutlookFiles

Step 2: To import the created Outlook PST to the Exchange Database

  1. Use PS commands to move the PST files to the MS Exchange Server Mailbox.
  2. The transfer of the PST file is done by using the PowerShell command. An Exchange Administrator can frequently import the Outlook PST file into Exchange Mailbox.
  3. Some rights need to be assigned to the mailbox before the execution of the import command.

Note: The Administrator does not have the permission to import the file through the mailbox.

Manual Method: Limitations

The Manual method for moving the Gmail data to Exchange Server Mailbox has some limitations which are described below:

  • The Manual method is quite lengthy and time-consuming.
  • More than 2GB of the Outlook Data file (.pst) to Exchange Mailbox cannot be imported by the Powershell command.
  • This command works only for the 32-bit client machine with the Exchange Management.Tools installed. This requirement comes from the dependency with the MS Outlook client and hence it doesn’t work for a 64-bit client machine.
  • The user needs to have a sound technical knowledge when dealing with the PowerShell commands to export Gmail Emails to Exchange Server.

With the limitations mentioned above in using the manual methods it becomes imperative that the user go in for an automated professional and the efficient tool like the Exchange Import Tool for the migration from Gmail Data to the Exchange Server Mailbox so that it helps the user to get the task done speedily and without the fear of data threat and loss.
