Know More About the Important Issues With Exchange Server

A healthy Exchange Server environment is only dependent on the configuration & interaction of the multiple variables which are available. If even the one component of the Exchange Server organization gets maintained improperly, it can create a bad effect which will hamper the entire Exchange Server ecosystem. Thus, in this article, we will discuss issues with Exchange server and how one can easily get rid of those issues.

#Issue1: Exchange Server Storage Size & Location Error

The storage is a condemnatory element of Exchange Server administration & can have an adverse effect on the operations. Thus, from the planning point of view it is very important to design Exchange Server storage appropriately which should meet the following criterion:

  1. The requirement of Exchange Server performance.
  2. The pricing needs of the information store
  3. Location of the information store, transaction logs, SMTP queues & the Window Operating System.

Thus, planning Exchange Server storage the performance should be considered before capacity.

#Issue2: Exchange Server & its DNS

The DNS is one of the important components of an Exchange Active Directory. For Exchange Server to work properly it should use internal DNS server for the name resolution. If we want that Exchange Server should start successfully then DSAccess of Exchange system needs to be able to identify domain controllers & global catalogs.
There are several issues in DNS that causes Exchange Server to get hampered. These are mentioned below:

  1. Presence of root domain (.) in the internal DNS servers
  2. DNS zones & MX records
  3. Reverse lookup zones
  4. Pointer records
  5. SPF records

#Issue3: Information Stores & Mailboxes of Exchange Server

The information stored in Exchange 2000 & in Exchange 2003 has a limitation of storage to around 16 GB. When the 16 GB limit is reached it is possible to temporarily increase the limit size by 1 GB. But after this increase in size limit the Exchange server mailboxes gets hampered as because now the mailboxes are unable to access & cannot be open properly, which ultimately arises issues with Exchange Server.

#Issue4: Move or Remove Exchange Servers

The issues with the availability of free & busy folders also including offline address book can occur if the Exchange Server in an administrative group has been removed. By default, the first server in the group hosts the site folder for that particular group. Thus one should take into consideration while moving or removing any Exchange server mailboxes.

#Issue5: Exchange Server Backup & Recovery

Like all other applications, it is always important to perform regular Exchange Server backup & always plan for disaster recovery. All the Server storage groups stores share transaction logs. They get flushed when a successful backup of the store gets completed. Thus, Exchange server storage groups need to be backed up together.
